Microsoft announces that the company is planning to add support for Android and iOS in .NET 6. The next major version of .NET (i.e. .NET 5.0, currently in Release Candidate 1) is going to be shipped in November 2020, and .NET 6 will be shipped in November 2021 as an LTS (Long Term Support).

Microsoft added a new feature to Microsoft Edge that will now allow you to choose "Open" or "Save" options for downloaded items before the download begins. This is called as the new download GUI. Last year, during the Ignite 2019 conference, Microsoft announced the public preview of Visual Studio Codespaces which allowed developers to code from anywhere using a browser and the internet. Now the company has decided to retire it and migrate all its users to GitHub Codespaces.

Microsoft released a new Office for Android Build 16.0.13231.20002 to the insiders. The latest build adds a couple of new features to Outlook that includes support for two-way calendar sync, customizable mail notifications, and a prompt to download Teams on your mobile when you create an online Teams meeting.

The mobile commenting feature of OneDrive has been expanded to non-Office file types, including photos, videos, PDF documents, and over 300 other file types. Prior to that, the feature was only working for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.

Yesterday, Microsoft released the Windows 10 Insiders Preview Build 20201 to the Dev Channel which contains no new features, but a list of bug fixes and improvements. Along with this, the company also released a new ISO/DVD image for the same preview build so that the insiders can perform a clean installation on their PC.

Microsoft announced that they are backporting the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL2) distros to Windows 10 version 1903, and Windows 10 version 1909. Redmond based software giant said that it took over the last few months to bring it to Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909.

 

The backported WSL2 support comes to x64 systems only via a cumulative update (KB4571748) for those listed two Windows 10 versions and is currently being rollout out to the users.
