HTTPS is a browser protocol that securely establishes a connection with the hosting server. This is being done by using SSL encrypted tunnels. These days, many websites use the HTTPS protocol to create a secure channel between the client and the server.
Microsoft confirmed that the company is working on a feature that will set HTTPS as its default protocol in Microsoft Edge (Chromium) browser. This feature is going to come in a future build of Edge v92.
