Microsoft released Visual Studio 2022 v17.5

Why should you use the latest version of Visual Studio 2022?

Visual Studio 2022 is available in a variety of editions, including Community, Professional, and Enterprise, each offering different levels of functionality and support. Developers can use Visual Studio 2022 to create applications using a variety of programming languages, including C++, C#, F#, Visual Basic, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, and more.

There are several reasons why you should consider using Visual Studio 2022 for your software development projects:

  • Comprehensive feature set: Visual Studio 2022 includes many features and tools that can help you build high-quality software efficiently. From code editing and debugging to project management and deployment, Visual Studio 2022 has everything you need in one integrated development environment.
  • Multi-language support: Visual Studio 2022 supports a wide range of programming languages, including C++, C#, Visual Basic, F#, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, and more. This means you can work on a variety of projects without needing to switch between different IDEs.
  • Collaboration tools: Visual Studio 2022 includes built-in tools for team collaboration, such as Git version control, code reviews, and pull requests. This can help your team work together more effectively and ensure that your code is always up-to-date.
  • Integration with Azure: If you use Microsoft's Azure cloud platform, Visual Studio 2022 provides seamless integration with Azure services, such as Azure App Service, Azure Functions, and Azure Kubernetes Service. This can make it easier to build and deploy cloud-based applications.
  • Improved performance: Visual Studio 2022 introduces a new 64-bit architecture, which allows it to handle larger solutions and utilize more system resources. This means you can work with larger codebases and improve your productivity.

What's new and improved in Visual Studio 2022 v17.5?

  • Faster loading of large solutions: "Build Acceleration", a new feature of Visual Studio, enhances the performance of incremental builds. "Build Acceleration" instructs Visual Studio to only create modified projects, skipping those that were left unmodified. For.NET projects using an SDK, enabling Build Acceleration can cut incremental build times by up to 80%.

  • External Sources Decompilation: Decompiling from external sources is up to ten times faster in version 17.5, which makes debugging and problem-solving more effective.
  • All-in-one search: This brand-new, unified search interface makes it simple to discover whatever you need in Visual Studio, including commands, files, settings, symbols, NuGet packages, and more. You can also utilize natural language inquiries to get suggestions based on your purpose relevant to your objectives.
  • Improvements to debugging and diagnostics: Text visualizer now has access to additional tooling and string manipulation options, including URL and Base64 encoding and decoding, JWT decoding, etc. The text visualizer and fast watch window fully support the dark, blue, and light VS themes. Indicator icons in the parallel and call stack panes will direct attention to pressing situations like blocked or deadlocked threads. Duplicate strings, a new auto insight for snapshots/dumps, is now displayed in the Managed Memory window.

  • Unreal Engine Blueprint Asset Inspector: You no longer need to exit Visual Studio to access properties from base classes edited in an Unreal Blueprint asset. To access the UE Asset Inspector in Visual Studio, double-click on a reference to a C++ class or property in a Blueprint.
  • Layout configuration management: Enterprise administrators now have a new option for modifying Visual Studio's layout to fit their needs. This is called as "Layout Configuration Management". With this, it's now possible to build layout configuration files that indicate the components that should be installed or uninstalled by default, the workloads that should be shown or hidden in the installer UI, and the settings that should be used once the installation is complete.
  • New Linux Features: You may now deploy your Linux projects using SSH and debug Linux core dumps straight from Visual Studio 2022 by utilizing the remote headers IntelliSense mode. This mode eliminates the need to copy header files from your remote workstation.
