It is also mentioned in this note that the Windows Defender's Credential Guard component has a severe bug that enables a locally authenticated attacker to bypass the security restrictions and gain elevated access to the targeted system.

According to the report, the following versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems are on high alert:

  • Windows 11 for ARM64-based Systems
  • Windows 11 for x64-based Systems

The CERT-In advisory has informed that Microsoft has already issued a software fix for this issue, and thus the authority has asked all users to install this patch for the Windows Defender mentioned in Microsoft Security Bulletin.

If the auto-update option is enabled, then your device will be updated to the latest software version automatically. For all other users, you need to navigate to Windows Settings app > Windows Update to manually check and install the latest update.
