What's new and improved in Windows 10 KB5010342 update

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

According to the release notes, this build addresses an issue that causes a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) modify operation to fail if the operation contains the SamAccountName and UserAccountControl attributes. The error message is Error: 0x20EF. The directory service encountered an unknown failure.

Apart from this, the build also includes the following fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where lsass.exe could stop working and the device would restart. This issue occurs if you query Windows NT Directory Services (NTDS).
  • Fixed an issue that fails to apply the Group Policy Object (GPO).
  • Fixed an issue that prevents Robocopy from retrying the file copy process.
  • Fixed issues with verbose Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS).
  • Fixed a memory leak that occurs when you call WinVerifyTrust().

REMINDER: Windows 10, version 2004 reached the end of servicing on December 14, 2021. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends that you update to the latest version of Windows 10.
