Windows 10 update KB5004296 adds new improvements for Windows 10 version 21H1, Windows 10 version 20H2, and Windows 10 version 2004

As you already know that Windows 10 is a service, it gets better through periodic software updates via the Windows Updates. If you have already enabled the automatic updates, its automatically downloads and updates all or most of the updates.

There are some updates that Microsoft feels like an unimportant one but good to have. Microsoft marks those as an Optional Update and that requires user intervention to download and install. The latest Windows 10 cumulative update (KB5004296) is one of them.

As the Windows 10 versions 21H1, 20H2, and 2004 share a common core operating system and an identical set of system files, this update comes to all those listed operating system versions.

Windows 10 update KB5004296 comes with the following fixes and improvements:

  • Updates an issue that prevents gaming services from opening certain games for desktop users.

  • Updates an issue that plays the sound for selecting something in a game loudly when you press the trigger button on a game controller.
  • Updates an issue that prevents power plans and Game Mode from working as expected. This results in lower frame rates and reduced performance while gaming.
  • Updates an issue that fails to detect that you are connected to the internet after you connect to a virtual private network (VPN).
