📢 Windows 10 Build 21343 brings a new look to File Explorer

Starting with the insider preview build 19569, released in February 2020, Microsoft started updating the icons in Windows 10. Initially, the icons were replaced for the built-in apps, and gradually it started updating throughout the Windows 10 ecosystem. Now, taking a new step, Microsoft is updating the system icons in File Explorer.

If you are a Windows Insider in the Dev Channel, you can upgrade to the latest Windows 10 build 21343 to get a new look of the File Explorer with the new icons. Please note that the custom folders pinned to Quick Access will disappear after upgrading to this build. So, you will need to pin them again. Microsoft said that they are working on a fix for this issue.

Several changes, such as the orientation of the folder icons and the default file type icons, have been made for greater consistency across Microsoft products that show files. Notably, the top-level user folders such as Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and Pictures have a new design that should make it a little easier to tell them apart at a glance. And yes, the Recycle Bin icon has also been updated!, Microsoft said in the announcement.

With the latest Windows 10 preview build, Microsoft also adds improvements to the Windows Sandbox and Microsoft Defender Application Guard (MDAG) to take advantage of the special container technology which is now built into Windows 10. Starting with this build, Microsoft introduces a new lightweight runtime for containers, which has been designed and optimized for various scenarios.

Apart from these, Microsoft also adds the following changes and improvements to the latest Windows 10 Preview Build 21343 released to the Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel:

• Windows Administrative Tools folder in Start has been renamed to Windows Tools.
• Microsoft is introducing the new "News and interests" experience to China.
• The new IME candidate window design is now rolling out to all Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.
• The “Get Help” link in the touch keyboard has been renamed to “Learn more”.
• You can now use CTRL + Left / Right arrows to move your cursor between words in the file name while renaming files in File Explorer. You can also use CTRL + Delete and CTRL + Backspace to delete words at a time.
• The displayed symbols in the network-related surfaces have been updated to use the new system icons.
• The "Shared Experiences" page will now send notifications directly to the Action Center if it detects an issue with your account connection.
