Microsoft announces support for x64 emulation on Windows 10 on ARM

Windows 10 on ARM was first launched in late 2017 that only supports 32-bit x86 apps. Over time, applications started requiring more RAM. As a result, the capability to include x64 application emulation required.

With the Windows 10 Insiders Preview Build 21277, Microsoft expanded the emulator capabilities. It now supports x64 emulations for ARM64 devices.

You can now install x64 apps from the Microsoft Store. Google Chrome, which still works on AMR64 as a 32-bit app can now run as 64-bit using the new x64 emulation.

To have the best app performance, you should update your graphics driver. Microsoft suggests installing the preview version of the Qualcomm Adreno graphics driver. You can get it from the following locations:

To support both ARM64 and x64 C++ applications at the same time, install the ARM64 C++ redist. You can download the ARM64 C++ redistributable from here: https://aka.ms/arm64previewredist
