Windows 10 version 21H1 is the next feature update coming on the way and is supposed to release in the first half of 2021. The new official documentation reveals that Windows 10 version 21H1 to receive a new feature that will get support for the TLS (Transport Layer Security) 1.3 protocol.

Though the next feature update of Windows 10 won't bring any major features, the inclusion of TLS 1.3 is going to give better and safer transport layer security to the end-user.

Windows 10 version 21H1 update to bring TLS 1.3 protocol support

What is TLS?

For those who want to know about TLS, let me first tell you that it is a successor to SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). TLS stands for Transport Layer Security and provides secure communications between the web browser and the server. It uses symmetric cryptography to encrypt the data being transmitted over the web.

What are the benefits of using TLS 1.3?

Eight years after TLS 1.2 was released, the final version of TLS 1.3 came in August 2018. It brings faster, safer, and better security to the transport layer.

While TLS 1.2 requires two rounds of trips to complete the TLS handshake, TLS 1.3 requires only one round of trips. As it makes the encryption latency to half, it provides a faster experience in terms of the client-server communication.

Also, if you revisit a site that uses TLS 1.3, it takes 0-RTT (zero round trip) to send data to the server.

TLS 1.3 removes the obsolete and insecure features of TLS 1.2 which includes DES, 3DES, AES-CBC, SHA-1, RC4, MD5, etc.
