Microsoft starts rolling out a new Windows 10 patch (KB4023057) to make your device compatible to receive the latest upgrade. The latest build adds reliability and security improvements to Windows Update Service components in consumer Windows 10, versions 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709, 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909, and 2004.

 

In the Microsoft support document, the company said that this patch will perform some operations in your system to prepare your device for the next Windows 10 updates. Here is a list of changes that the patch may perform on your system.

  • This update may request your device to stay awake longer to enable the installation of updates.
  • This update may automatically reset your network settings if problems are detected.
  • It may reset your Registry settings if it detects any key preventing updates from being installed successfully.
  • This update may repair disabled or corrupted Windows operating system components responsible for Windows Update.
  • This update may compress files in your user profile directory to help free up enough disk space.
  • This update may reset the Windows Update database to repair the problems that could prevent updates from installing successfully.

 

Microsoft said that this update may request your device to stay awake longer to enable the installation of updates. This update will respect your "active hours" settings about the uses of your device the most. It will also respect any user-configured sleep configurations.

 

This update may compress files in your user profile directory to help free up the disk space to make sure that the Windows Update can install important updates. Once this update gets installed, your files will be restored to their original state.
