📢 How to enable new download UI in Microsoft Edge?

Microsoft added a new feature to Microsoft Edge that will now allow you to choose "Open" or "Save" options for downloaded items before the download begins. This is called as the new download GUI. Though this feature was there in the old legacy Edge browser, Microsoft recently added it to the Chromium-powered Edge.

If you are running the latest Edge Canary or Edge Dev build (version 87.x or higher), you will have to turn ON a setting to experience the feature. Here's how you can enable the new download UI in Microsoft Edge. Follow the steps mentioned below.

How to enable the new download UI in Microsoft Edge?

1. Launch the new Microsoft Edge (Chromium) browser.
2. Click the three dots (..., ALT + F) present at the top-right corner of the browser.
3. Navigate to Settings | Downloads.
4. Enable the toggle that says "Ask me what to do with each download".

Once you enable the feature, as mentioned above, Microsoft Edge will ask you whether you want to open the file without saving or save the file to disk first.

If you click Open, the file will be downloaded to a temporary folder and execute it from there. The file will be automatically cleared once you launch a new browser session for Edge. The Save as button lets you rename and choose where the file is saved. The Save button saves the file to your downloads folder, and the Cancel button cancels the download.
