Microsoft Edge 85, version 85.0.531.1, which was first started rolling out to the insiders in the Dev Channel in early June has been now promoted to the Beta Channel. In this update, Microsoft introducing several new features including sidebar search, the ability to block possibly unwanted apps, and spell checker improvements.

 

If you are on the Beta channel of the Edge Insiders, you can directly upgrade to this build or can install using the offline installer shared at the end of the post.

 

Microsoft Edge 85 started rolling out to Edge Insiders in the Beta channel

 

According to the Microsoft Edge enterprise roadmap and release schedule, Microsoft promoted the Edge 85 (85.0.564.18) to the Beta channel. The dev channel currently has Edge 86, whereas the stable release channel is having Edge 84 (84.0.522.44) at this moment.

 

Microsoft Edge 85 in the Beta Channel includes Sidebar Search, a feature that adds a contextual search powered by Bing. If you have this build, you can highlight a word or phrase, right-click on it, and select "Search in sidebar" from the context menu. Search results will show up in a pane on the right side of the page, as shown in the following screenshot:

The search pane will show you the web results like definitions, web links, images, videos, and many more Bing services which are related to the query. Sidebar search is a persistent panel in the tab in which it was opened. It will give you the option to close the panel or look up additional information related to other words using the search box.
