Microsoft-owned GitHub platform announced that they have now made private repositories with unlimited collaborators available to all GitHub users. This means all of it's core features are now free for all user accounts.

Until now, if an organization wanted to use the private repositories, it had to subscribe to a paid plan which was costing minimum $9 per user/month.

All of the core GitHub features are now free for everyone

  • All core GitHub features are now FREE for all user accounts.
  • Price slashed for users requiring advance features of GitHub.
  • Existing customers will see a price drop automatically from their next billing cycle.

A big move by the Microsoft-owned software development platform GitHub to provide all core features available to all user accounts. With this in action, teams can now manage their work together in one place: CI/CD, project management, code review, packages, and more.

The company also announced that, if any Team needs any advanced feature (like code owners), enterprise features (like SAML), or personalized support on/from GitHub, can upgrade their account to one of the paid plans.

GitHub plans for advance features

Along with this announcement, they have also reduced the price per user account for the Teams plan from $9 / month to $4 / month. If you are an existing customer, you will see your bill automatically reduced going forward.
