Microsoft accidentally released an internal-only Windows 10 build on 24th July, that reveals a new Start Menu design and a GIF search tool within the emoji picker. The build was not tested, and was released accidentally to a small portion of insiders in Fast, Slow and Release Preview rings.

If you are one of the (un)lucky insiders and downloaded/installed this build, Microsoft explained how to rollback it to the previous build.

Microsoft shares how to rollback from accidentally released Windows 10 build 18947

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Microsoft accidentally pushed Windows 10 build 18947 to insiders.
  • The build was triggered from internal-only canary branch.
  • A small portion of insiders in Fast, Slow and Release Preview ring received this build.
  • You have a maximum 10 days, based on Storage Sense configuration, to rollback to previous installation.

By the time Microsoft acknowledged the accidental release of the untested Windows 10 build 18947 from their canary branch, if you have started downloading it or have already installed the build, Microsoft now explained how to stop or rollback.

If you are on Fast ring, you may not have to worry much as you are already in the 20H1 branch. The next release build to Fast ring will replace it. If you are on Release Preview or Slow ring, you have a maximum 10 days to rollback depending on the Storage Sense configured on your system. As a Release Preview or Slow ring insider, you are not the intended recipient of this build and should be on 19H1 or 19H2 respectively.

If your installation is in "pending" state, from the Update & security page pause the updates for seven days. This will cause the pending install to be cancelled. Once the settings register on the device, reboot the system and then return to the same screen and unpause updates.

If you have already installed the build 18947, navigate to Update & security | Recovery page and under the Go back to the previous versions of Windows 10 select Get Started. Then follow the onscreen instructions to rollback.
