In this computing world, we are familiar with PDF document formats, which opens in Acrobat Reader or any other compatible PDF Reader applications. In Windows 10, it is easy to create PDF files using the Microsoft Print to PDF printer drivers.

 

Though, this feature is available by default with the operating system, but in case it is not available, you can install the required driver by following the steps mentioned in this post.

To install the 'Microsoft Print to PDF Driver' in Windows 10, first open the Settings app, and navigate to the Devices tab as shown in the below screenshot:

From the left-side navigation panel, select Printers & scanners. In the right-side panel, scroll to the Printers section, as demonstrated below. If you don't find the Microsoft Print to PDF printer listed there, you need to add the said printer driver.

Under the Add printers & scanners, click on Add a printer or scanner, as shown in the below screenshot:

This will search for available printers connected to your system. Click on the link The printer that I want isn't listed, as shown below:

This will open the Add Printer dialog on the screen. Select the last option, that says Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings and click the Next button, as shown here:

In the next screen, you need to select the printer port. Click the Use an existing port option and select FILE: (Print to File) from the dropdown. This must be a Print to File port. Click Next to continue.

In the next screen, select Microsoft from the left-side panel. This will list the available printers in the right-side. Select Microsoft Print to PDF from the list and continue to the next screen by clicking the Next button.

Provide a name (say: Microsoft Print to PDF) to the newly added printer. Click Next to continue. This will add the printer driver.

This will now show you the added printer driver under the Printers & scanners of the device settings page, as shown in the below screenshot:

Now open any document or picture to print it as a PDF. Let's open any Microsoft Word document and navigate to the Print menu. Under the Printer section, select the Microsoft Print to PDF from the printers list. Click on the Print button to save it as PDF.
