Sometime it's a question asked by people "What's the best antivirus product?" or "Do I need to install any 3rd party antivirus product on Windows 10?" etc. Ok, to answer this query, you must understand how much security you actually need.

In this post, I am going to answer this. Also, sharing some Microsoft recommended 3rd party good products which you can run (not mandatorily) as a primary antivirus software.

Which antivirus software is right for me (www.kunal-chowdhury.com)

If you are running Windows 10 Operating System from Microsoft, you are already secured enough from Viruses, Malwares, Spywares etc. It already has an in-built strong antivirus program named 'Windows Defender' running when you install Windows 10. And yes, it comes completely Free with Windows. If you are using Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, you are still secure with 'Windows Defender' but the protection is far better (I believe) on Windows 10.

If you are running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you can use the 'Microsoft Security Essentials' to keep safe your personal or small business PCs against malwares. But that's not safe enough. These malwares consist of viruses, spyware and other potentially unwanted software's which can harm your system. Hackers and scammers sometimes use fake antimalware software to trick you into installing viruses or malware on your computer.

If you are not much satisfied with Windows Defender or Microsoft Security Essentials, you can install a good Antivirus and/or Anti Spywares/Malwares from reputed security companies listed below. This are compatible with Windows system and Microsoft recommends to use any one of them.

Important

Before you install anti-malware/antivirus software, check to make sure you are not running any anti-malware or antivirus product on your computer. If you do, be sure to remove the product you don't want before you install the new one. It can cause problems on your computer to have two or more different anti-malware/antivirus products installed and running at the same time.

Please note that the 'Windows Defender' and 'Microsoft Security Essentials' will automatically turn themselves off if you install another anti-malware/antivirus program to protect your system.

Was the post helpful? Do let us know. Also do share which antivirus solution are you using and on which operating system. If you question the same to me, it's the in-built 'Windows Defender' running on the latest version of 'Windows 10' operating system and I am much happy with this. The last 3rd party antivirus product that I used was 'AVG' on Windows XP. Since Windows 7, I am using the in-built product only.
