On 12th October, Microsoft started rolling out Windows 10 build 10565 to the fast ring Windows Insiders. The same build is now available to the slow ring users and also available as an offline ISO image. In this release, Microsoft released some new features and fixes along with Start Screen context menu improvements.
In this post, we are going to see the Start Screen context menu improvements that the giant company is going to make in forthcoming Windows 10 build.
Windows 10 build 10565 is now available for both Fast ring and Slow ring Windows Insiders. If you are one of them and have already installed the latest version, you might have noticed the new changes in the Start Screen context menu. The giant company has redesigned the start screen context menu and moving towards a better Windows.
With build 10565 onwards, you will see a redesigned context menu. This contains three or more primary context menu items. Though Microsoft is still working, but this will be more or less same in next final update. The “Resize” menu item when expanded, looks similar to this with different tiles sizes as applicable by the app:
The “More” context menu entry adds various other menu entries like “Turn live tile on/off”, “Pin/Unpin to taskbar”, “Rate and Review” and “Share” etc.
Some apps can have application specific context menus. These are called “Tasks”. As shown below, the “Snagit” app has two app specific context menu entries labeled “Start Capture” and “Open Snagit Editor”. This could be different in other application.
The “Outlook 2016” app in Windows 10 has different and more nos. of tasks in the start screen context menu. Have a look in the below screenshot:
Some apps can have “Recent Files” lists. You can observe this for notepad, MS Office apps. Here in the below screenshot you can observe two different categories for the recent files in Windows Live Writer. For this app they are “Recent Drafts” and “Recent Posts”. Again, these are application specific and will have different entries for different applications.
That’s a good by Microsoft to redesign the Windows 10 context menu in Start Screen. They are also working to redesign the desktop context menus and both with new icons set. Hopefully in future release, we will see a better UI.
