Everyone cares about internet data usage, especially when they are using a limited bandwidth. Most of the people don’t have a free or unlimited internet connection. Hence, it’s require to check which application of your Windows installation mostly uses your internet bandwidth.

Microsoft provides a way to check the network usage by different applications in Windows 10. In this post, we are going to discuss on this. Continue reading to further know about it.

Windows 10 provides you a simple, easy to follow process to monitor your network usage eaten by different applications installed in your system. This is called as “Data usage” or “Data Sense”. It was already available in Windows Phone and Microsoft brought this feature for the desktop/tablets along with Windows 10.

To open up the data usage/data sense settings, open the settings app from the Start or just press “Win + i” keyboard shortcut. Then navigate to the “Network & Internet” settings page as shown in the below screenshot:

Now at the left side panel, click on the “Data usage” to open up the said settings at the main panel. Under “Overview”, you will notice the actual data usage of last 30 days. It lists for Wi-Fi and Ethernet usages, if any. For me, I have utilized 0 MB Wi-Fi bandwidth and 410.73 MB Ethernet bandwidth (don’t think much of my internet usage as this value is just a day old after installation of Windows 10 build 10525 yesterday).

You can click on the “Usage details” hyperlink to further know about the applications that usage high bandwidth.

Once you click on Usage Details, it will open up the network usage page listing all the applications eating up the bandwidth. In this page, check which application is using more bandwidth. If you are not actually using this app and still it using bandwidth, it might be because that app is running in the background. In such case, you can uninstall that app or turn off it’s background services.
